Water Conservation
Water conservation initiatives at JC Golf courses are the top priority for our agronomic teams. Careful and cautious water use is not only environmentally and fiscally sound, but also essential to promote healthy turfgrass at each facility. Our teams are actively involved in the GCSAA, PGA, and SCGA and commit to water conservation annual plans that include education, adherence to regulations, and audits. The following processes are employed at each facility while some have more in-depth processes.
Water Sources
JC Golf facilities use varying water sources focusing on usage from non-potable sources such as recycled water, storm drainage water, and well water. At least 95% of all irrigated turf is irrigated from the non-potable sources. If these alternative sources of water are in use at our facilities, we also focus on maintaining healthy storage ponds for better water quality.
Use of Technology for Water Savings
Moisture meter usage is in place at each JC Golf facility. Whether it is hand-held or in-ground moisture meters, these are used to water only what is necessary for the needs of the plant based on weather conditions. This data is also used with weather station data and computer controlled irrigation systems resulting in a more accurate application of water.
Irrigation Efficiency
A focus on irrigation efficiency begins with auditing the irrigation system controls and field operations, high-efficiency irrigation systems, targeted watering, and identifying and repairing leaks. All JC Golf properties employ these tactics through staffing of irrigation-specific staff members.
Maintenance Practices
Key practices that focus on soil and plant health are the basis of all agronomic plans. A healthy plant and soil system aids in the efficient use of water. Our Golf Course Superintendents are consistently participating in continuing education to stay up to date with the latest information in drought and water savings golf course maintenance strategies. Our golf course maintenance programs focus on promoting the use and care of turfgrass and plant material species best suited to the area climate for the most efficient use of water.
