Team California Takes 2nd Place In 2022 PGA Jr. League Championship

The two-time champions from 2015 and 2018, Team California narrowly defeated top-seeded Team Illinois 6 ½ to 5 ½ in the semi-final round. In the final match No. 2 Team North Carolina defeated No. 4 seed Team California 7 ½ to 4 ½ in the match-play.

“Team California played their hearts out and didn’t give up. They have lots to be proud of,” said Coach Jackie Dewald-Mason. “North Carolina played awesome! Made lots of long putts and great shots.”


Team California or SDCL #1 All-Stars team members include Captain: John Mason, PGA – Encinitas Ranch Golf Course, Coach: Jackie Dewald-Mason – Encinitas Ranch Golf Course, Jay Leng Jr., 13, Michael Riebe, 12, Jasmine Kahler, 13, Antonio Barbosa, 13, Brasen Briones, 13, William Ma, 13, Colin Li, 13, Lucy Yuan, 13, Bryant Hernandez, 13, Justin Gill, 14.

Prior to nationals, Team California flew from San Diego to capture the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Regional Championship at Wailea Golf Club in Kihei, Hawaii, Sept. 4.

The PGA Junior League championship has attracted national attention with a record 70,000 boys and girls playing PGA Jr. League. Next year, the event will shift to Fields Ranch at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas, the site of the new “Home of the PGA of America.”
